The ChiliView Series - Edwards Air Force Base (KEDW)
Edwards AFB (KEDW) is home to the Air Force Flight Test Center and NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center. Almost every US military aircraft since the 1950's has been tested at Edwards and it has been the site of many aviation breakthroughs. For instance, on Oct. 14th 1947 Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier in the Bell X-1 rocket plane. On April 14th 1981 the first Space Shuttle launched into orbit touched down on Rogers lakebed runway 23. Today aircraft research is still active at Edwards whith projects like the X-51 WaveRider scramjet with a maximum speed of Mach 7+ and several unmanned stealth combat air vehicles (X-45, X-46, X-47).
It covers a total of 3625 sq km.
